"Whoa, this one is huge! Mass quantities of richly caramelized and roasted malts create a deep and dark flavor profile. Our Kölsch yeast adds a superb roundness."
Brewed with organic Pilsner and Munich malt, imported crystal malts, and Perle hops. 7% ABV, 80 BU

The name Ultrastout implies an imperial beer, or perhaps a comic book superhero capable of assuming the form of dark liquids. Double Mountain has posted its AVB variously as 7.0% and 6.5%, neither of which is particularly imperial. Nor did I see any evidence that this beer was willing to fight supervillains. However, this coal black beer brewed with organic malts was capable of entertaining imbibers with its inviting chocolaty aroma and taste girded with coffee contours. Tan lace makes an enthusiastic effort and the beer in every way lives up to Double Mountains burgeoning reputation.
Ultrastout might earn a technical designation as an export-style stout though with an Americanized hop amperage of 80 IBU. Roasted qualities make some appearance but burnt elements are absent and the finish doesnt linger. And all those hops set off the chocolate properties but dont bury them. Though the ABV is uncertain, the alcohol itself had virtually no effect on me.
