A: Poured a nice straw yellow color with light carbonation and a nice white little cap
S: Like a lemon head candy. Sour, lemon, a little booze
T: Huge sour lemon presnce, with hay, grass and just the right amount of sourness. Excellent!
M: Nice, medium light to medium body, sour for sure
O: Excellent and among the best and a gret rep of the style

This is a version of the Devil's Kriek (2009 edition) that used Double Mountain's homegrown Rainier, rather then Bing cherries.
Served on draught at Belmont Station in a Delirium Tremens snifter, Rainier Kriek is a hazy golden yellow with a small white collar, kept alive but a strong column of bubbles erupting off the elephant etching on the inside bottom of the glass.
Smell is heavy on the clean, cherry sweetness of the Rainier's, sweet and musty. Swirling and sniffing through the glass, my nose was showered with a fine mist of spritz dancing out of the glass, awesome! Rainier Kriek continued to open up more as it warmed, and by the end I was totally enamored.
Taste is similar to the nose, but reversed, in that there is more must then fruit. No real pucker, just some generic barnyard, with a slightly lambic like phenolic character that I find easier to recognize then elucidate, but perhaps rubbery will help. The cherry sweetness is most noticeable on the rear sides of the tongue, and the acidity really starts to build up on the teeth after a while. Not a classic kriek, but nevertheless a very good beer.
Mouthfeel is great. Very fine, geuze like carbonation, a little slick, light and dry.
Drinkability is very good. It took me a sip or two to adjust to the taste, and longer then that to really understand it, but by the end, I was really loving it. And while I didn't get a chance to try this year's Devil's Kriek, which I understand is a retooled recipe, it was much better then Devil's Kriek from last year.
