these guys have to be one of the only breweries in the country anymore making single serve bottles of ipa at affordable prices, this format and this price point have gone away, so its always shocking to me when i see new ones emerge at five bucks or so, awesome. i fortunately got to have this on tap, and its a cool showcase of a new to me hop called zappa, which has some wild herbal and strange fruity layers to it, the beer is simple other than that, which makes sense to introduce an ingredient like this, the grain gives some medium body and faint residual sweetness but its out of the way in the flavor, and the yeast ferments this without adding much flavor, so it really is all about the hops. the pour has a slightly frosted golden hue to it, a great inch plus of dense white head slowly fading. aroma here is sliced pineapple, tangy citrus candy, fresh herbs including dill, and maybe a little strawberry, really summery and kind of oily and dank too, some woodsy vibes but it isnt heavy and aggressive. the flavor is similar, some ripe melon in the mix, hints of clover, honeysuckle, and mango, and honey, its sweet in the middle but not at the end, and its only a little bit bitter so its got kind of a long finish, some staying power, slightly intense but in a cool unique way, i think i like zappa hops a lot after this one, there is definitely a sort of candied taste going on, but its flattering, and i like the heady sativa fruitiness. overall really cool beer, love this hop now i think and cant wait to see it in other stuff, might be cool in lower dose in a saison type, but also i commend the overall simplicity of the base beer, perfect for tasting these hops. double mountain rules!
