definitely not the kind of beer we all know and love double mountain for, but i was stoked on this, stoked to see it on the menu at bittercreek, and was specially keen on it being nitro! a brass toned brew, rather clear, and with well over an inch of puffy nitro cream on top, looks great in the glass, a perfect morning beer. definitely english, close to a bitter, but im not sure they call it that, could also pass as a pale mild, really grain driven, light and cereal forward, a little toasty and nutty but never heavy from the grain and frankly on the dry side. subtle honey and toffee and golden raisin, bready and rustic while also being very tidy and well refined. the english ale yeast in this is subtle but also sort of central to the whole experience and vibe of the drink, very old worldy to me, highly authentic, even if cask would suit it more appropriately than nitro, i think its amazing in this format. it tastes more robust than it smells, which is not uncommon with nitro, or i guess with some english types, this kind of ends up hitting like a boddingtons, perhaps that was the goal, clone something like that, definitely a success if so. just a little bit of hops on the finish, slightly soapy as it warms, balanced, nutty, almond, cereal, dried herbs, faint metallics, fast finish, creamy feel, still quite lively. really fun and unexpected from these guys, and extraordinarily well executed, could have drink this all day long...
