Big River Red Ale

The label says it is "Brewed and bottled for Big River Brewing Company by Florida Beer Company, Melbourne, FL." However, the label says this beer is "brewed under the name Rocket Red Ale in Big River Grille at Disney's Boardwalk..." But the draft microbrew beer on tap at that restaurant has a considerably lower ABV. In any case, I've had both, and they are very different beers.

This bottled version brewed by Florida Beer Company is a very nice red ale. It is beautiful in the glass, with a deep red color and a nice creamy blonde head that laces nicely and continues to replenish from the carbonation. The nose is a nice forward malt, and the maltiness follows through on the palate (from British Crystal malt according to the label), but is joined by a lovely hoppiness (from Cascade hops according to the label). The front of the palate on this beer is slightly tangy, which is unusual but pleasant. This mellows toward the back of the palate, and finishes with domination by the hops, leaving a pleasant bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is about right for a red ale, and the beer is very drinkable, again for a red ale. Not as refreshing as a pilsner or lighter lager, but perhaps more satisfying in the end.
