Highs: Pretty characteristic white ale
Lows: Ive had plenty better
The description of this beer in part reads Belgian witbier with unmalted wheat, barly malt, orage peel, and coriander. 5% ABV
Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellowish color with minimal carbonation. There was no head due to a bar pour, but the sheeting that was there quickly disappeared, and there was no appreciable lacing. Nose is primarily of spice, mainly coriander. Taste is again spicy with the coriander up front, but also with some semi-sweet orange that disappears about midway through, fading to a heavy wheat flavor pretty characteristic of the style. Mouth is full and bubbly, pretty satisfying. Finishes malty, a bit bitter, spicy, with more wheat. Drinkability is a bit above average; though a decent representation, this one doesnt float my boat. Ive had many better witbiers/white ales. Sam Adams beats this by a mile. Not one of McGuires best specialty beers, at least not this batch (2006).
Overall: A decent witbier, but seems unrefined: goes from sweet up front to a bitter finish abruptly. Worth a try.
