A: Strange dark red/orange color with ok tan head. Does not look filtered.
S: Strong butterscotch notes. Some berries, light hops, strong malty smell.
T: Starts with the malty sweetness and butterscotch. Berries kicks in after. A little bit of wood like taste. Then, it finishes with a nice hop aftertaste. Nothing exceptional, nothing to complain too.
M: mid weight. Mid to high carbonation. Very crisp feel to it. Perfect for the style.
D: High, nothing is overpowered, alcohol is low, so it helps.

500 ml bottle.
A- Very dark red. Head OK, leaves some lacing on the beer and glass.
S- Malt and touch of hops. Touch of berries.
T- Nice malty taste with strong roasted barley notes. Not very hopped, but I find this fits the style. Lacks dimension in the malt profile, but is still tasty. The biggest problem is that it has a bit too much burnt taste, especially in the aftertaste which makes it feel halfway between a decent red and a mediocre stout.
MF- Medium bodied. Nothing great, nothing bad.
D- Goes down OK and has some flavor to it.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a medium foamy head with some pretty good retention. Aroma of caramel and light toffee is dominating and quite enjoyable. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel malt with a light toffee notes. Body is quite full with some good carbonation. Well done for a style that does produce its lot of boring/bland beers.

Second beer we tried at Pub Le Mitan, the brewpub on beautiful Ile dOrléans.
Every québecois brewery produces a "rousse", a pleasing, flavorful, unobtrusive red ale that is a good session beer. The version made here has the typical clear reddish amber color and ring of foam. Aroma is malty-sweet.
The flavor of this offering is on the sweet side of rousse, lacking a bitter finish that would put it into better balance. There was a smoky, roasted edge that was good, provided some bitterness, but maybe some more hops would help the finish. None of the rousses are especially exciting, and this is not the best I tried, but they are all quite drinkable and this one is no exception.
