Thanks to hoppypocket for this one. Brewed for La Barik's 6th Anniversary.
Poured from a 500ml. bottle.
Appearance: A completely opaque brown body (no tints0 with a mocha brown head. 3 fingers reduce to a thin ring with minimal lacing.
Smell: Brown bread, honey cakes, bananas, ripe fruit (?) and roasted malt.
Taste: Black licorice. What the...? Yeah, black licorice in a doppelbock. Some dark raisins and figs in the back but it's all about the licorice. It permeates everything. The only thing saving it from being a 1 for taste is that at room temp, that flavor subsides a bit to let some bread and roastedness come through with figs and raisins.
Mouthfeel: Viscous a bit, thick and mouth filling but the burn from the black licorice is annoying.
Overall: Very disappointed with this one. Not at all what i expected or hoped for in a doppelbock. If you like black licorice, gor right ahead but if not, abstain.
