Mayflower Beerliner Weisse is an old style of beer that is rarely brewed. The grist consists of 50% pilsner malt and 50% pale wheat malt. A technique known as kettle souring was used, where the souring bacteria lactobacillus was added to the wort. Left over night the bacteria produces lactic acid, giving this beer a tart, sour flavor and aroma. High carbonation combined with a low alcohol content of 3.0% ABV, this is a perfect brew to enjoy on a late summer afternoon.

On-tap 11/16/2014 at Battleship Brewhouse in Fall River, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a very pale yellow color, with a very thin head that fades quickly and leaves a very thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains touches of wheat, tart citrus and very light malts.
T: The taste starts out sour with tart flavors of citrus and esters. The malt character is very thin as it should be with this type of beer and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is sour.
M: Crisp and a little smooth but quite watery even for the style, light body, light carbonation, finish is dry.
O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, extremely mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are others in the style that I would choose first.
