Mayflower Märzen is a lager designed in the tradition of those beers brewed for Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the world’s largest beer festival running from late September until the first Sunday in October. A malt bill exclusively of German Munich and Vienna malts provide a toasty, slightly sweet and rich flavor balanced by a modest amount of German tettnang hops. This beer fermented slow and cool for two weeks, followed by six weeks of lagering (cold conditioning), producing a very smooth brew perfect for those crisp days of fall.

On-tap 9/27/2015 at Natty Greene’s Tavern, in North Attleboro, MA served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, lager yeast, honey, fruit and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with strong flavors of lager yeast and a hearty malt character. Then some sweet flavors of honey, caramel and fruit come in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid O-fest beer to pound down for a long time.
