This Belgian-Style Tripel Ale honors William Bradford, founder and long-time governor of Plymouth Colony. His journal, "Of Plimoth Plantation", is the authoritative account of the pilgrims and the early year of the colony. This golden beer is brewed with Pilsner malt along with a high proportion of sugar, allowing for high alcohol while keeping a light body. A unique Belgian yeast contributes some nice fruit notes, specifically cantaloupe. Well-hidden high alcohol content paired with low hopping rates make this one a candidate that will hold up well with aging.

Poured into a chalice, the appearance was a golden yellow color with a half finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated fairly quick. Just a rim of lace slides with the beer. The aroma had some soft banana to sweet bubblegum sugars. Light candied fruit and then some coriander and a touch of booze. Vanilla, biscuits and some herbal qualities enter in as it warms. The flavor leads with the sweetness of the blend between the sugars, banana and boozy notes. Somewhat of a phenol-like to pomme-like fruity aftertaste and then hits the finish fairly the same. On the palate, this one sits between sessionable and sipping, something somewhat light about it but the booziness coming out seems to make me want to sip it. The weight seems closer to medium bodied. Light stickiness hits my lips. Some boozy hotness crosses the back of my throat. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, not exactly a stellar Tripel but one that might be better in time. If I had another bottle, I’d age this to see if that booziness slides on out.

On-tap 5/3/2017 at Pour Farm Tavern in New Bedford, MA, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a bright gold color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains bananas, citrus, spices, Belgian yeast, caramelized malts and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, bananas, citrus and spices. Then some breadiness comes in from Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Very tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, good kick, very good representation of style, this is a very good Belgian-style beer to drink for a long time.

Poured a clear golden honey amber color with a 1F head in an Orval Trappist glass.
Carbonation bubbles from the bottom which continued for a time.
Aroma- excellent. Honey, stone fruit, apricot.
The taste follows the aroma- a veritable sign of an excellent beer. More pronounced honey, stone fruit and apricot
with a spicy bitterness, and a lightly sweet finish.
Another excellent and distinctive Cooper series beer from Mayflower which continues to brew styles with a singular approach.

Had on tap. Pours clear, light gold in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is banana, clove, honey, and light Belgian spices. Sweet, medium bodied with moderate carbonation. This strikes me as an average tripel. Decent, but nothing I would rush out to have again. I tend to prefer the tripels brewed overseas.

Dirty gold color, similar to a cider. Clear. Small head which settles to rim bubbles. Light webby lace.
Sweet, almost like hard candy aroma.
The taste starts benign with only a semisweet pale malt)beginning. The swallow draws out a strong alcohol warmth, a bit of hop bitterness and light berry sweetness. Rich bodied as expected with a very light carbonation. Overall, I like the balancing bitterness which is so often missing from this style.

A solid Cooper's Series offering if you like triples. The yeast gives it a slight clove/banana/bubble gum taste. For $10.69 a 4 pack, it is a fair value. Less sweet than other triples like Golden Monkey and Merry Monks, and this one is preferable to me. The alcohol is all but hidden - a very easy drinker. For one of Mayflower's first forays into a Belgian style, I give it two big thumbs up. I will still take La Fin du Monde over it, and while it's not the best triple ever, it's a solid base hit. This could be a year-round beer. Great job, Mayflower!
