X is our Tenth Anniversary Imperial Stout, a big one for fireside sipping during snowstorms. Notes of toffee, bittersweet chocolate, with a warming finish reminiscent of red wine. Enjoyable now, but also appropriate for long term cellaring.

16 oz can dated 1/22/18
Pours pitch black with 2 fingers of light brown head with decent retention but eventually settles to just a thin film and leaves behind sporadic lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel and dark fruits; some alcohol comes out as the beer warms. Taste hits the same notes as the aroma. I get cocoa powder, sweet caramel malts, and some dark fruits. I don’t get the roasty notes that I’d expect in a stout but otherwise this hits all the Imperial Stout notes that I’d expect. Body is medium-ish, definitely sweet but not syrupy or cloying. Low+ carbonation. Overall a tasty beer, ABV is very well hidden. I’d like more roast in a stout but this is still very enjoyable.

Been following Mayflower from the beginning, as they were the first brewery in the area close to my grandparents' cranberry farm. Also been a big fan of Steinberg's brewing since then (Exhibit A). So excited to see their 10th anniversary beer. Canned 1/22/18
Pours with very little head almost nothing, no lacing, long legs pitch black beer
Nose is a bit weird, an almost chicory thing, lactose and milk sugar, milk chocolate, not much for dark malts in general, little oatmeal and nougat, marshmallow, various levels of chocolate, little caramel
Taste brings more weirdness, burnt acrid roast, burnt coffee, burnt caramel, etc, yeasty not infection but fruity like continued to ferment in the can, with a mild metallic taste, char and pretty acrid, licorice, caramel machiato coffee but burnt, burnt lactose sugar, mild bitterness, a bit of alcohol later, oatmeal creaminess, lots of burnt coffee late, and sticky bitter finish
Mouth is med to heavier bod, a little creamy but acrid sharp roast, sticky sweet, little warming booze, decent carb
Overall this was a bit sad, a mess of a beer, no real dark malts on the nose yet loads of acrid burnt flavors on the taste, a sad let down that any experienced homebrewer could have done better.

X gon give it to you. Espresso, molasses, dark fruits, dark chocolate and booze. A weird off flavor that I can't describe. It's like acrid burnt caramel. Medium bodied, lower carb and semi dry. It's eh. Not the worst, but not very good.

Had it on draft. A very nice, nothing fancy Stout. Taste leans more towards a Porter, but I'm very ok with that. Very drinkable. Alcohol taste is non-existent - considering it's around 11 ABV, nicely done.

Canned on 1/19/18, drank on 1/24/18; brewed in honor of Mayflower's 10th anniversary; very good imperial stout
