Pale malt provides a solid base for a heavy dose of both Mosaic and Simcoe hops. Because Mosaic is a direct descendant of Simcoe, often called "The Daughter of Simcoe," these aromas compliment and compound each other's intensity. Specific aroma descriptors include pine, tangerine, grass, and passion fruit. Why is it called 398? We're counting up as you count down to the 400th Anniversary of America's Hometown. Limited batches of 398 will be brewed and packaged throughout 2018.

Not sure what others here are expecting but this is a very, very solid DIPA from Mayflower. I can fine no fault here...the 3 hop mix is well balanced with citrus and florals, not boozy given 8%. Some call it decent, I’d like to know their standard because this is a top not NE DIPA.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Long Ridge Wine and Spirits for about fourteen dollars. Have had many brews from these guys before. Decent brew, but nothing special, would not buy again.

From the 16 oz. can dated 06/22/2018. Sampled July 21, 2018.
The pour is a light amber-yellow tone with a cloudy appearance and a foamy, delicate white head up top. It fades some.
The aroma emits a pleasant character of earthy and floral hops as well as a balance of sourdough bread sweetness. No alcohol.
Medium body.
The taste tends to be far more bitter than the aroma suggests but I do pick up a quick sweet breadiness to start that quickly evolves into an earthy hop presence. Again, no alcohol. Fairly clean finish.

Canned 5/01/18
Pours a big fluffy foamy 1.5 finger head that fades semi slowly with nice lacing, mostly clear slight hazed golden yellow color
Nose starts with sweet malts and candied fruits, mild citrus marmalade and candied stone fruit, sweet almost sugar glaze, generic citrus zest, little tangerine and pithy notes, pretty light in general though
Taste brings more candy flavors, sugar syrup a bit of blond malt, candy sugar, glazed fruits again with a mild stone fruit apricot like, little generic citrus, maybe young tangerine or not so sour lemon zest, marmalade flavors again, a little warming perfumey alcohol, that's about it, again light, drier finish but still sticky sweet, a little alcohol tingle
Mouth is med to fuller bod, nice fizzy carb, some warming almost tingly alcohol
Overall eh, very light even for DIPA, not much going on, drinkable but boring

Great DIPA, citrus, no strong alcohol taste. Very impressed for a NE Style DIPA

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a modest copper color with a sly transparency about it. The head was about two fingers and glided off at a mild pace. Some trickling lace.
The aroma had some grapefruit dryness, squeaky hop spice, lemon zest and light grass.
The flavor had most of the aromas coming together sweetly then popping a pronounced blend of grapefruit/melon character. Light aftertaste of the melon with some lemon zest.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair amount of sessionability about it. Of course carbonation was nice and low.
Overall, pretty good DIPA that I could have again.
