Just found the notes..tasted this on 12/13/08.

A- Deep, deep brown, totally opaque. almost no head.

S- not much aroma. faint hint of tropical fruit. sort of smells like frosting.

T- sweet vanilla, tropical fruit. almost no hops. roasted malt, coconut.

M- nice mouthfeel, light carbonation.

O- Very nice overall! I wonder if i put anything in a bourbon barrel, will it get better? way to improve upon an already very drinkable porter. keep up the good work, mayflower. next time make more and bottle it...some bombers would be nice.

A: Mostly black with a little dark brown around the edges and a thin, tan head that leaves minimal lacing.

S: The spiciness and smokiness of the bourbon barrel is in the forefront here. A nice roastiness hidden the back with subtle vanilla.

T: Sweet with some bourbon coming in quickly with a good spice and roastiness in the back. Nice smooth vanilla hint in the back.

M: Very smooth, mine is a little flat because I let the growler sit too long. Stupid me.

D: The smokiness could eventually be overwhelming, and if you don't enjoy the taste of bourbon then it might not be for you.

Poured from the growler with a 1 finger tan head that showed little retention and faded back into the beer. I poured rather aggressively to achieve the head that formed. There was slight lacing that remained. The beer was very dark brown and a shade darker than root beer.

Aroma was nice and consisted of Slight vanilla aroma with some roasted notes and certainly notes of oak...

Flavor was very nice and actually grew on me as I enjoyed the beer. There was an initial burst of roasted malt followed by a mellow vanilla/Oak flavor. The bourbon barrel really shines through and makes this beer. Not much sweetness to speak of and I thought a touch more would have made this even more pleasing.

Body was rather light and the mouth feel was silky smooth. Too thin to be considered creamy, but it was definitely heading in that direction. Again, due to the lack of sweetness, it finished a bit dry.

I found this to be very drinkable and enjoyable. As it stands now, it's a good beer. With a touch more body and sweetness to round out the barrel aging, this could be a really memorable beer.

When I bought the growlers yesterday at Mayflower they said they just received 7 more Bourbon Barrels. I hope they brew some more using these and look forward to trying them.

Limited, barrel aged, straight from the brewery, poured by the owner himself--take that.

Pours black with a small butterscotch colored head that disperses quickly. Maintains darkness even when held to light.

Smells of oaky tannins, vanilla and some roasted malt. Very faint.

Tastes like unsweetened vanilla Coke. Some coffee, roasted malt, and very subtle oak. Thin, oily mouthfeel but a smooth, medium body.
