The smaller head does fade away completely and leaves zero lace. The liquid is darker amber and nearly clear.
Strong semisweet caramel and alcohol. No yeast notes, otherwise this could pass as a Belgian Duppel. It smells like winter.
Rich bodied but with an ample (and fine) carbonation. Slightly less sweet on the tongue than the smell suggests. The alcohol hides until the swallow where a bit of hop bitterness brings enough balance prevent the brew from becoming cloy. This is a strong beer that doesn't hide its strength.

Pours a clear reddish brown with a 1F head and light lacing.
Smells of toasted malt, slightly dank hops, alcohol and sweet fruit.
Tastes of toasted malt, belgian yeast, brown sugar, cherries raisins and cloves with a slightly bitter boozy warm finish.
Medium body with light carbonation. Slightly lush syrupy mouthfeel.
This is a very strong, sweet and bitter sipper.

It’s always cool seeing these anniversary beers from breweries I’m not typically super interested in, but this one drew me in because of the style. That being said, I do enjoy most of the Mayflower beer I’ve had, though it’s not many. I know they do pretty good with classic styles though, so let’s see their take on this one
Pours a clear amber red with a finger of light tan head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
There’s really not too much to the aroma here, but what’s present is nice. I’m picking up on aromas of black cherry, brown sugar, molasses, dark bread, light herbal hops, and toffee
In taste it opens up more, hitting most of the traditional notes of the style instead of the slight tartness in the aroma. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting candi sugar, raisin, sweet molasses, dark bread, herbal hops, clove, light caramel, and apple skin. The swallow brings notes of raisin, dark bread, black cherry, molasses, candi sugar, toffee, cocoa powder, light clove, and a touch of fusel alcohol
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick and slightly boozy beer. Finishes mostly dry with a bit of warming alcohol
It’s not breaking any new ground, but it’s damn solid. A bit boozy but that’s expected for the style
