On-cask 12/11/2011 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub, in Pawtucket, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass. I drank this beer side-by-side with the Crystal Hops version of the same beer.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a short dense beige head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, chocolate, oats, coffee and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with bitter-sweet flavors of dark chocolate and some coffee. There are touches of dark fruit and oats in the background. The hops presence is a bit more pronounced compared to the Crystal hops and regular versions and it brings a good balance. The after-taste is bitter-sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is dry but slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, there was very little difference between the two versions except that the Crystal hops version is creamier and the Serebrianka hops version is a bit crisper. Overall it’s a good stout to drink for a while.
