Rivertowne Brewing Company "Patrick's Poison"
12 fl. oz. can, production coded but not freshness dated
$1.99 @ Giant, Havertown, PA

Wow, this must be a high gravity brew! When I pulled it from the fridge it felt heavier to me than a can of beer normally does so I weighed it against a can of Two Brothers Sidekick Extra Pale Ale and it came out 21 grams ahead ;)

It's a slightly hazy deep-copper with a ruby cast beneath a frothy-then-creamy head of off-white. The head retention is very good, and the lacing is even better.

Dark caramel and burning sugar wrapped in citrus fruit greet you in the nose; and in the mouth it's full-medium in body and delicately bristling.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, as usual, with a wider, richer malt component. A solid bitterness and some citrusy, herbal and piney hops balance it and bring it to a dry and spicy finish (alcohol?) despite its malty girth.

All in all a charming brew, although at 8.0% ABV I'll leave it out of my St. Patrick's Day celebration lest I find myself seeing leprechauns!

I saw this one out just in time for St Paddy's day, but I bought a single can to give it a try. Imperial Amber ale brewed by Andrew Maxwell...slightly hazed body deep hazy ruby amber brew with a cream khaki colored head. Fine speckled lacing left on my chalice as it dwindles down. Aroma has great pine and citrus hopped notes, earthy herbal herbaceous hops with caramelized sugars. Very tasty great malt complexity, earthy herbal tea notes, caramelized sugars a touch of smoked character although I don't believe there's any smoked malt it's got a peat like character. Interesting fruity center in there as well, balanced notes big malts and big hops that blended well in an imperial Irish Red style ale. The can is the must for those Breaking Bad fans with Wylie the fish wearing a chemical full body suit brewing up some beer looking like a brewing/meth lab. Mouthfeel finishes dry and herbal tea bitterness, smooth mouthfeel crisp carbonation nothing cloying at all. Overall an impressive offering out of a can from a local Pittsburgh brewery great stuff, I will try to find a case at mark down someone mentioned about buying 24 of these brews for 20 bucks you can't beat that still drinking great the can protects the hops wonderfully.

Got this on the bargain shelf for 20 bucks a case last week. Glad I did! This beer is great! I really enjoyed it. Great color and head retention. Very bold flavor. Great malt to hops balance. high abv is well hidden. Sneaky beer. Be careful, it is very good and slides down easy.
