Rivertowne Brewing Co. "Mangs Up"
12 fl. oz. can with production coding but no freshness dating.
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: No mention of the style on the label. It pours a hazy dark gold body beneath a creamy head of white. It looks a little like a witbier. The aroma is mineralish and generically fruity in a tropical way. The flavor is lightly tart and fruity, apparently from mango, which at least partially explains the name, although I was initially thinking apricot based on the aroma. The mineralish character remains but it's not bad, better in the mouth than in the nose, and I assume that's from souring. I don't taste any salt but that doesn't mean it's not in there, although I'm guessing this is not intended as a gose. There's no real bitterness to it either which is OK because it's so light and the tartness helps to balance it. I'd call it light-medium in body and gently crisp. It's decent enough. There's really not a lot there but the fruit is nice and it is refreshing and easy to drink, and at just 4.6% you could certainly drink a few if you wanted to. The head retention is average and the lacing is limited but that's not uncommon among sour ales.

Really appreciate what these guys did making a mango sour ale. Smell isn't as tart as I expected and taste is fairly sweet with a tart edge. Kind of watery but it's to be expected for just 4.6%
Good for the style and goes great with food
