Espresso Stout has a dark brown body that lets a little bit of light through when held up to the light. The brown head is creamy and has OK retention, but only a scrap or two of lacing stays behind.
The aroma is lots of coffee with a load of sweetness.
I classified this beer as a sweet stout for two reasons: first, Rivertowne refers to it as a "sweet stout," and second, this beer is really damn sweet. A ton of coffee comes first, with a bit of a roasted flavor. The coffee manages to avoid bitterness with a ton of sweetness coming in to clean up the coffee flavors. Too much sweetness in my opinion, a little bit cloying.
Mouthfeel is medium to low bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation.
The coffee flavor in this one is good, but the sweetness is a little too powerful for me.
