First brewed for Ragbrai team Team One More in 2009, Field Trip IPA is a bronze-colored ale with a balance of malt and hops. Centennial and locally grown Cascade hops provide a viny, citrus flavor and aroma. U.S. and Belgian malts provide a firm sweet backbone to the hops. Finishes with a firm hop bitterness.

On tap at The Brass Tap, Cedar Falls, IA; served in a snifter. Clear golden amber color, with a decent white head that left some absolutely stunning lacing. Bready malt up front, with lots of hoppy bitterness. Notes of pine and citrus begin to pop through as the beer warms a bit. Medium mouthfeel, with the clean and bitter finish that I look for in an IPA. Excellent beer, recommended.

Fairly clear golden brew. Good white head and nice lacing on the glass. Not a significant smell to the beer, very subtle. Nice well rounded hoppy flavor, distinctive of an IPA. Strong hop aftertaste, just what I expect from an IPA. A tasty brew with mild complexity, but not many notes aside from typical IPA hoppiness.

The beer is a hazy golden-orange in color.
The aroma is hop forward, with plenty of tropical and citrus fruits.
The taste follows the aroma but is well balanced with malt, although the hops, appropriately for the style, predominate throughout.
It has a very bitter and dry finish. This is a fine American style IPA.

Poured from a growler, freshly filled from Head Brewer Peter Ausenhus, into a Duvel tulip glass. Pours a deep copper with a big soapy white sticky head and good carbonation. A very nice aroma of citrus hops with some toasted caramel. As I take a sip the malty sweetness hits the front of my palate with a little caramel toasty/roastiness then turns to some floral/citrus hop flavor. Mouthfeel is very smooth with a nice sharp hop bitterness. Overall, a very well done IPA that I will always seek out when I'm in Northwood. Nicely done Peter!
