A portion of the malted barley was kiln dried with apple wood smoke in Wisconsin to give this rich beer a distinctive flavor and aroma. Great with food—we suggest the Ploughman’s lunch. The brew is black with a creamy tan head. Medium smoke in aroma continues in the first taste with malt and roast. Strong pleasant smoke finish.

Some of the malt for this beer was kiln-dried in Wisconsin with cherry wood smoke. It is dark black in color. It was hard to pick a style for this beer, it is a porter, it uses rye and it is smoked. The smoke being prevalent, I picked that.
The aroma is dark, roasted malt, and very, very smokey, but not out of balance.
The taste follows the aroma, there both a sweet and tart note along with the dark roasted malt and smoke. The mouthfeel is very smooth. The aftertaste of smoke has a cherry note in it. I am not a huge fan of smoked beers, but this was very well done. If you are a fan of smoked beers, seek this out while it is still around. Worth Brewing will be taking it to the Festival of Iowa Beers in Amana, Iowa on September 4, 2011.
