Deep reddish brown with a medium persistent head.
Sweet aroma with strong cherry note.
Initially sweet with low bitterness gives way to layers of complex fruit and dark sugar flavors.
Alcohol heat is less noticeable than some other dubbels.
Fairly heavy mouthfeel for the style hurts repeat drinkability.

11.2oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bought from Zeno's Pub
A: Pours dark with a full ff-white head, slowly dissipating as it settles. Laces the side of the glass as you drink.
S: The smell is nothing special. Definitely get the alcohol, along with malts and some spiciness.
T: Tasting the malts up front, definitely followed by the spiciness, but doesn't finish well. I'll echo the dry aftertaste.
MF: Medium body, less that I expected, carbonation seems normal.
D: I could drink this beer all night, but the ABV (and price in Central PA) say otherwise. Also, I'd rather take the abt 12 day in and day out.

Reviewed with the help of Speedwayjim in the beautiful state of Georgia in the mountains, served out of a snifter glass.
Appearance: 3 1/2 fingers of web-like head, amber brown in color.
Sweet: Sweet fresh green and concord grapes, malts, belgium yeast and mildly alcoholic.
Taste: This Opens with malts, and sweet green grapes. In the middle the concord grapes and belgium yeast com through and there is a slight sourness towards the end. This brew actually leaves me alittle unsatisfied. There is a strong tangy and dry aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: This reminds me of another well know Belgium beer and I would definitely have more than another.

St. Brevardus Prior 8 came in a clear mug and was an orangeish brown with an off white head. The aroma was malty and just a touch spicy. The flavor is also malty and a touch spicy, caramel is a bit noticeable. There is a touch of fruit, but it's not particularly strong. Pretty easy to drink, not nearly as good as the beer it's named for however.
