Thanks BA, for letting us rate retired beers from closed breweries!
Had this Belgian-Style (Strong) Golden Ale at a convention banquet in Durham, North Carolina, poured from 12-oz. can into footed water glass, on April 30, 2016, just coincidentally the same day Triangle Brewing closed with one last event at the brewery across town.
Poured gold, with mild haze, and soon gone near-white head. Belgian yeast and fruity aroma and flavor, this was a very solid lead beer for Triangle Brewing, which I was sorry to see close.

Hazy, cloudy golden color with a nice inch and a half thick head. no distinguishable smell upon initial sniff. Taste is not over powering bitter like most Pale Ales. Taste was suprisingly smooth. Good Belgian Pale Ale

Poured from a 12oz. can into a Gnarly Barley pint glass.
A: Slightly cloudy, with a small head size and some lacing. Deep golden in color. Nice.
S: First impression upon opening the can: banana-flavored candy. On pour, smell expands to a softer banana candy with a hint of cloves, but still slightly synthetic in nature. Smells somewhat attractive.
T: Wow, was not expecting that. Strong ashtray overtones - burnt, musty, dirty even. Aftertaste hints at what could possibly be the intended flavor, with notes of banana and grass. No presence of residual sweetness I've come to expect from the style; contrastingly, it was very bitter in the mouth. Very strong sensation of alcohol bite present. Overall, not a pleasant flavor at all.
M: Lighter than I would expect from a Belgian style. No trace of residual sugar that I've noticed in most of this style I've tried.
O: This beer fell on its face with the taste for me. It smelled enticing, but the flavor did not follow the nose at all. Will not be purchasing again.

Very smooth & delicious. This & Raleigh Brewing's Hell Yes Ma'am are as good as Belgian Strong gets!

Fair. Honestly? Tastes like a Belgian married a full flavored Budweiser... honest beautiful Belgian notes, mixed with that ugly red and white can.
I'm sorry.
