Poured from a 16 oz can into a tulip glass.
Pours a deep, dark brown - nearly pitch black color with 2 fingers of creamy khaki head. The head has excellent retention, holding on for several minutes before settling into a thick blanket. Leaves a beautiful crown of lacing at the top of the glass. Perfect looking beer.
The aroma brings notes of roasted peanuts, dark malts, baked bread, and of course, fresh coffee. There are also notes of vanilla and dark chocolate with the absolute foggiest idea of hops.
The flavor starts off with some dark roasted malts and cereal grains before a wave of coffee, chocolate fudge, cocoa powder, caramel, and vanilla. Finishes subtly earthy and hoppy.
The feel is medium to medium-full bodied with lower carbonation. Creamy, velvety smooth and soft as a pillow. Has a subtle, lingering coffee bitterness.
Overall, this is an excellent oatmeal stout and I love it. The cans label it as a "coffee stout" but the coffee is more of a passenger along for the ride rather than the one driving the beer. It's so well-balanced between the coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and hoppy notes that it's almost impossible to not like this beer. This is fantastic and I will fight you if you say otherwise.

Dark brown where no light passes through the edge. Lasting beige head. Plenty of small spots on the glass for lace.
Dark black patent malt smell with freshly brewed coffee grounds. In short, lots of coffee (no cream, sugar, or ash).
The flavor matches the smell well. This is very much like an iced coffee with no cream nor sugar. Accurate body for a dry stout. Slightly high carbonation. The finish is bitter with no notable hop just black coffee (no Baker's chocolate). Long aftertaste.

Pours two finger tan head, some lace that fades slowly. Black color, no highlights. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose and taste follows - roasted/burnt coffee. $3.70 for a 16oz can from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Very dark brown with a thick tan head
Smells amazing with a mixture of chocolate, brown sugar, baked goods, and coffee of course.
The taste is similar to the smell with the coffee being a little more prominent but not much so. Out of most coffee stouts I've had, the coffee is not as obvious as others. If it wasn't labeled as a coffee stout, I may not even notice the coffee flavors as having been added, but it really melds well with the underlying oatmeal stout.
This is really great hearty stout and I will definitely get it again.

Pours black with a brown head. Nice lacing with good retention. Chocolate cake and dark roast coffee in the nose. Full bodied with a velvety mouthfeel. Coffee-spiked brownie batter on the palate. Oreo shells with oatmeal dust. Finishes slick and oily with plenty of dark chocolate and coffee beans.
Great breakfast stout.

16oz. can served in a tulip. Pours one shade shy of black with a tight, quarter inch, mocha-colored head with clusters of bubbles adhering to the surface. Head gradually dissipates into an oily slick. Nose reveals big coffee notes, akin to French roast, followed by cacao and artificial vanilla. Taste consistent with nose; however, the artificial flavoring is not present in the flavor profile; however, there is a slight metallic character towards the back. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (closer to light) with a mild carbonation. Overall, a solid oatmeal stout; however, a little lacking in mouthfeel.

CANNED 10/23/17
Pours a deep, dark nearly black hue with a fat, creamy tan head. Smells wonderful, like chocolate-covered raspberries, coffee beans, fudge, and subtle creamy vanilla. Flavor is more forward with the coffee bean which matches the intense roast of the malt...dark chocolate, berries, and tasty grain. Silky smooth medium-plus body drinks easy. This is making me remember just how good Ipswich can be. Beautifully executed.
