Decent head that leaves some spots on the glass. Amber orange color and quite cloudy.
Solid caramel-like malt nose. Mild floral hop in the background. Attractive.
Pleasant, round mouthfeel with a definitive spritz. This creates a creamy flavor profile of pale malt and light malt sugars. There's an excellent balance from the bittering hop in the swallow. This is a very easy beer to drink with a good complexity to keep it interesting.

Equinox Pale Ale pours a slightly hazy copper color with a moderate, creamy head on top. The foam disappears quickly leaving behind a few spots of lace on the glass.
The aroma is subdued with notes of orange citrus, lemon grass and cereal malt.
Each sip of this medium bodied beer is smooth and creamy with mild carbonation. The flavor begins with bready malt, cereal and a little toast. The hops appear in the middle with some orange & lemon citrus. It finishes moderately bitter with an odd spice flavor. Almost reminds me of licorice. Once gone the bready malt and citrus lingers on the palate.
This is an easy drinking beer that has a nice balance of malt and hops and great mouthfeel. A good session ale.

I'll admit, I'm jaded. Been a big fan of Ipswich since the beginning. And their brewery release events seem to fly under the radar. On April 20th, after the surreal week in Boston, I visited the brewery to sample the latest in their fine Five Mile Local Harvest Series. (As many local ingredients as they can jam in is the theme.) Tasted some on draft, but just now cracked open a bomber.
Pours a slightly cloudy amber, light lacing, and comes on strong for 4.8%. The nose knows, and the first sip is, well, wow. This one has a unique taste to me, hard to describe but spicy, fruity, not sweet. Not sure how Valley Malt does what it does, but it sure is great. Malt houses like this are perhaps the future of American brewing. Excellent and sessionable.
This is from the bottle: "We blended locally grown Alprilla Farm oats (Essex, MA) with Hadley barley... malted at Valley Malt, then added copious amounts of Citra, Crystal and Simcoe hops."
I like this brew as much as any pale I've tasted in years, and hophounds won't be disappointed.
