First had: on tap at their brewpub
Hazy, dark amber pour, with a half inch or so of off-white head that settled to a ringlet and left a bit of lacing on the glass. Spicy, Christmasy aroma, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, allspice, with a hit of booze. The taste reflected the nose, Christmas spices, plus a touch of cocoa, molasses, caramel malt, and a definite boozy heat, slight herbal hop notes in the finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. A good drinker overall.

A winter warmer in a wax sealed growler. How can this not be good? Provided by Frank and/or Pasta at my birthday tasting.
A - Kind of a muddy-water brown with a little bit of a white head that didn't stick around for very long.
S - Christmas spices. There's cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel. Lots of spices but too much spices. Spices.
T - Tastes sweet with lots of Christmas spices. I guess they felt by naming the beer Blitzen it would be a failure if someone were to mistake it for anything other than a Christmas beer. No mistaking it here, it's like someone through Christmas candy into a blender.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O - Too sweet and spiced, didn't care much for it. Not nearly the worst beer of the night though.

Review #900...and what a tick to celebrate the occasion!
Thanks to Frank (lurchingbeast) for this one. A badass waxed growler at our Good Beer/Bad Beer tasting. Poured into Bell's tulip.
A - Pours a burnt orange color, white head, thin collar.
S - Lots of spices, some booze, caramel. The spices are pretty dominant and reminds me of a candy cane that's overly spiced (if that even exists).
T - Even more spice, if that's even possible. In fact, so much spice I cannot finish my pour. Before I drain-poured this beer, I picked out some malty sweetness and light caramel, but then was hit with another round if spice, so I had to quit. It's not a bad beer, I just couldn't drink that much of it.
M - Medium body, decent carbonation, sweet spice finish.
O - With the name like Blizten Ale, I had a feeling I was in for a Winter Warmer with a ton of spice notes. I can confirm this is true, and if you enjoy candy canes with spices, you'll like this beer.

Received from Jefe73 in the Secret Santa 2011 BIF. 32oz waxed swingtop growler consumed two weeks ago
A: Pours dark cherry, leaving a 2 finger cream head. There was a little retention
S: To sum it up, smells like holiday spice - that ginger, orange zest and cinnamon sticks mix. Light chocolate and hop
T: Nice blend of caramel and chocolate malt provide the base. Initial sweetness fades to dry spices. I get citrus from hops, or maybe it's the orange zest that was included. Tastes like Christmas. Dry, spice finish
M: Medium bodied with an initial burst of carbonation that smooths out. Slight dry finish
D: Surprisingly good. Spice seems like it would eventually be too much but for one glass it's just fine

Thanks Frank (lurchingbeast). 1L wax-dipped swing-top. Served in a Captain Lawrence tulip.
A - A generous amount of off-white foam settles to a thin cap and splotchy lace. Lightly hazed amber body.
S - Smells like Christmas cake - cinnamon, orange peel, other nebulous spices, and cake. There's an odd soapy quality to this as well.
T - The taste is a bit sweeter, with less of the spice (and soap) character. Largely fruit cake with hints of orange peel and cinnamon.
M - Medium bodied, with surprisingly zesty carbonation. The body is like dry, crumbly cake - grainy and toasty. No alcohol presence.
D - If you're into winter warmers and fruit cake you might dig this, but it's tough to drink a lot. I thought this would be terrible, but it was surprisingly palatable. I like how Carleton's two bad beers were decent, and his 'good' beer was awful.

Guest beer at Cigar City. Best beer I had there.
This poured a murky brown with a two finger tan head that faded slowly and left ok lacing.
The aroma was full of spice, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla notes on a molasis, chocolate, malty backbone full of toffee and a touch of roasted coffee.
The flavor follows with the toffee/vanilla background, a touch of dark malt/chocolate and loads of spice. Spicy hops comes up to balance things out.
Overall, a very nice winter warmer sipper.

This was their recent holiday release.
Pours a slightly murky brown with very little head retention.
Smell is strong astringent hops and some spiciness with very little malt sweetness.
Taste is very, very spicy with some random chocolate or coffee notes. More spiciness than I am looking for in a beer. There is some hop character but it is limited and their is very little malt back to this beer.
I am glad I had the one pint just to try this one out. I don't think I could have drank much more though.
