Bottle shared by Bobby.

A: The beer pours a very dark brown color with a huge khaki colored head forming.

S: Very heavy on the roasted malts with a lot of coffee aroma to the beer. Somewhat acidic from the roast with some floral and citrus peel hop notes. A hint of booze is also present, unfortunately.

T: A licorice flavor is noticeable which is quite off-putting for a hoppy beer like this. Intense roast flavors with some dark chocolate. Rather lacking in terms of hop flavors, but there is a bit of citrus and pine.

M: Medium in both body and carbonation.

O: Overall a pretty weak beer. Not good as a black IPA or even as a porter/stout.

Pours dark, almost black with a light tan head. Aromas of chocolatey malt, spicy rye and dark fruit. Med to full bodied with the same flavors. It has a little sweetness on the mid palate and doesn't have much of that bitter flavor that most black IPA's have. It could probably use a little more hop flavor on the finish. The rye, malty and dark fruit flavors do a very good job of masking the 8.5 abv making this one very drinkable.

Overall very enjoyable and probably my favorite beer put out by Dunedin Brewery lately.

Color - Black.

Aroma - Dark fruit, blackberries, green hop leaves, rye malt.

Taste - Spicy rye melts with the taste of hop leaves. Roasted notes are suggested by the color, but they disappear when eyes are closed. Suddenly you taste the green leaves of hops and the rye. Clean, with little sign of 8.5% alcohol.

On-tap from the growler truck at the Hunaphu release... This pours a deep muddy brown but has some nice mahogany notes that give it some character. A light tan head shows for a second but is gone pretty quickly. Not the best looking black ipa I've seen... The aroma has a lot of dark fruits and molasses but is balance with rye that is very spicy. More rye shows than any typical black ipa traits. Ok... The taste also shows more spicy rye than anything, I don't get any of the hops that I am looking for. Some more dark fruits and a bit of chocolate. Too much rye for me but the alcohol is hidden incredibly well. Easy to drink but I'm not head over heels with it. If you're in the area stop by to tick it but not worth venturing out long distances for.
