First had: on tap at the Dunedin brewpub
Solid black pour, with a large, overflowing, tan head that eventually calmed down to a thick ringlet, leaving lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma was a bit muted, but everything was as would be expected for the style, aka dark roasty malts and not much else. The taste reflected the nose, dark roasty malts being the dominant factor, notes of coffee bitterness, with some piney and earthy hops coming in about mid-palate. Body was about medium, good for the style. Easily drinkable, and very good overall.
