Pours a foamy bubbly 1 finger head with moderate retention, fair soapy lacing, a bit of lacing, crystal clear cranberry to auburn ruby red color
Nose sweet candy malt, toffee, caramel, some chocolate, a bit of toasted sweet bread crust, fruity frosting or icing sweet, quite fruity with berry, cherry, plum, candy apple
Taste brings more sweet malts and sweet flavors but not too sweet, toffee and caramel, a bit of chocolate as well, the sweet bread crust and some toasty sweet Maillard notes, candy apple into fruity esters with cherry, sweet prune, candied fig, plum, rich biscuity malt with icing, mild bitterness, smooth alcohol, a bit of spicy hop on the semi sweet finish
Mouth is fuller bod, rich chewy like, med frothy carb, very light warming smooth alcohol, not too syrupy
Overall not bad, seems like it was sweetened a bit for the "North American" market palate perhaps, a bit sweeter than I expected for a true German doppelbock, but otherwise nice characters and enjoyable on a cool night
