Purchased at the Bacchanalia, a fantastic little offie in Cambridge. Bottle-conditioned in a 500ml brown bottle, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: the bottle is cracked open without making any bit of hissing sounda leaked bottle perhaps?? very dark brown in colour, with russet glows, coming w/o any signs of a beer head and a rather static body.
S: dark malty sweetness and rounded roasty aroma, added with touches of Chinese walnut-date cake quite fragrant yeastiness and maltiness overall, but sourness is still predominant.
T: damp, tartly-sweet dark fruits and treacle upfront, followed by mild roastiness and a slightly more assertive taste of walnut-date cake; sour and thin, becoming even lighter as it goes, although a mildly dryish bitterness does surface in the long end.
M&D: totally lifeless in texture the fizziness has all gone, extremely thin-bodied and watery, leaving only the sour-sweet maltiness to provide a little of lubricating mouthfeel A failed bottle-conditioning attempt by this brewpub. Not recommendedthe bottle-conditioned version at least
