Microbrasserie de Chamonix is a microbrewery owned and run by a couple of Canadian ex-pats.
You walk in to a generic pub-like atmosphere, which isn't too bad. There are fermenting tanks behind the bar, though I'm not sure if they're the ones used to brew the house beers. I think smoking inside is prohibited in France, so that's certainly a positive. There are bands and other events on certain nights, but we never caught any of it. Music (picked by the staff) plays not too loudly when the bands aren't on.
Service was generally good but when the bar is busy it can take some time to get served due to the low number of service staff.
They only served draught beer that is brewed on site. The beers themselves were quite average. They don't taste horrible, but they taste almost like nothing, which is sometimes worse in my opinion.
The food is what makes the bar worth visiting. We had the ribs and the nachos and both were great. The ribs in particular were amazing - some of the best ribs I've had, and not just in a pub. A word of warning about the nachos - don't get the large unless you are with a couple of other people because you get a lot.
Overall, it's not a place I can recommend going for the beer, but if you're in town for some cheap(ish) eats that are tasty, then visit this place.
