Nice DIPA, huge hop taste but drinkable. Pine and citrus nose, typical WC style. A little warming from the high ABV, but still manages o be refreshing.

A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a copper color and a hazy consistency. There was a two inch, foamy, long-lasting head, Pretty good lacing.

S: A decent aroma of hops, citrus, and some malt.

T: A large amount of hops (with a grassy tinge) in the flavor, along with citrus, malt, and a hint of pine. Tends to be a little bit overly bitter, but not without its bright spots.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry, bitter, slightly harsh finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Definitely an uneven beer. Not bad by any stretch, but there are many other better DIPAs out there.

Pours into in imperial nonic a lighter golden with just a hint of orange,a nicely tight formed one finger egg shell colored head atop that left a broken ring of laces as it slowly settled into a frothy mass.Aromas are light with some citrus oils and pithy grapefruit standing out mainly.A good smack of sharp citrus and grapefruit rind at the onset of the palate, not overly sweet but there is some sweetness in the finish, quite juicy. The alcohol creeps but to me this not a big sugary DIPA wich you find way to often,I think Carolina did a fine job here.

I got this beer from the NC Brewers Cup. Great event, BTW. I tend to think Carolina Brewery beer is average for a craft brewery that has been doing it for as long as they have been. This beer is different. The mouth feel is pretty great. I taste a very grapefruit front and a full bitter finish. The color is nice, lacing is average. Overall I would respect CB much more if they would do more beers like this.

Poured from a bomber into a hybrid Sam glass.

A: Pale straw with a medium head that dissipated quickly.

S: An unspecific hoppy bitterness and a mild malt sweetness.

T: Very bitter. Astringent. The malt can't keep up with the unspecific bitterness. On a positive note, the alcohol is present, but not in the front seat, no easy feat for a Double/Imperial.

M: Light to medium body, light carbonation.

O: Not my first choice. I get that these are born monsters, but I get the impression that all the hops were dropped in for bittering; the opportunity to let hop flavors and aromas shine was mostly missed. Not bad, but a very average IIPA for such a limited run.

22oz bottle poured into a lagunitas pint glass. no bottling date

pours a golden color with a medium white head that slowly dissipates. smell is a very mild aroma of hops with a citrusy overtone. the taste is extremely bitter. citrus on the aftertaste but the bitterness just dominates this one. not what i was expecting. medium body and medium carbonation. bitterness makes this not so easy to drink

overall an okay DIPA. too bitter for my liking, not balanced. this is Carolina Breweries first attempt at a DIPA and hopefully it improves as the brewery grows.
