A - Poured into a snifter a dark brown with basically no head, just a thin whisp of bubbles.
S - Rich, boozy dark fruit & molasass with some slight cocoa hints.
T - Much like the smell; rich dark fruit and molasass dominates with some cocoa hints.
M - Quite full bodied, sticky & syrupy feel. Very light carbonation.
D - Certainly a pretty full on beer but a little one dimensional. Worth trying but one is more than enough.

Appearance - 4.0
Did not have any head despite a firm pour. Colour is dark brown to black, somewhat murky with no evidence of carbonation and some fine sediment.
Smell - 4.5
Wow, this is one rich smelling beer! Powerful and sweet aromas of roasted malt, chocolate syrup, liquor soaked raisins and candied orange peel.
Taste - 4.0
Again, very powerful and quite delicious too. As with most strong ales it improves and softens with warmth. Smooth but strong flavours of molasses, cocoa, roasted malt and a warming alcohol. A little oversweet if anything, but the bitterness from the roasted malt and hops is at a nice level.
Mouthfeel - 3.0
Clearly the thickest, stickiest, most syrupy beer I have ever sampled. Has a slight tingly carbonation in the finish.
Drinkability - 3.5
Few could drink a second in a sitting, it is far too rich for that. Makes a good cold night drink though.
OVERALL - 3.95
As my first ever barleywine, this is very hard to judge. It has surely more calories than any other beer I have drunk? Oversweet, over-rich, over-indulgent but delicious all the same. It's great to see a beer of this calibre being brewed in WA.
