Got a half-growler of this at Oliver's Beverage in Albany on 2/19/16. Consumed about 24 hours later.

Olivers' website describes this by noting that it's a bourbon-barrel-aged version of their award-winning imperial porter, so I'm guessing this is a bourbon-barrel-aged version of Imperial Porter, which clocks in at 8% (this one is listed at Olivers as being 8.5% ABV).

A: Poured from the growler into a Piraat tulip. Body is black and there's a very small light-brown head on top that disappears quickly.

S: Fruity and sweet, with molasses noted, and then a decent but not at all overwhelming or powerful scent of bourbon. A good nose, just not really what I think of for a porter.

T: First impression: near-total lack of carbonation is immediately noted. Bourbon is the dominant trait overall, with alcohol heat felt in the belly right away. There's some chocolate in the malt that becomes more noticeable as it warms up a bit. Also some dried dark fruit - prunes come to mind.

M: As noted above, slick in feel due to lack of any carbonation. Pretty full-bodied in weight.

O: Doesn't really seem to have the traits I consider to signal a Porter - i.e., it's not at all roasty, no char/charcoal, etc. Plus that complete lack of carbonation makes it slick, where I usually think of porters as having more of a "thin" feel and some bite. Drinks more like a barrel-aged Imperial Stout, frankly, and judged to that style it's quite good (other than the carbonation issue).
