Raven's Eye Stout aged in Texas Rye Whiskey Barrels.

26 years ago, as the first shovel struck ground, Raven's graced the property where our brewery stands today. Even now, on quiet Fortuna evenings, solitary ravens can still be seen. On very rare occasions ravens flock together and that is called an UNKINDNESS.

For our 26th anniversary we have aged our classic Raven's Eye Stout in Balcones Texas rye whiskey barrels. With decadent notes.of chocolate, oak, spice, espresso and rye. A true celebration, as rare as an Unkindness wandering from the nightly shore.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, cocoa and coffee, a bit boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, bakers chocolate, rye whiskey, espresso and a little woody oak. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A pleasant change from the more common sweet and adjunct barrelled stouts that are everywhere, this has a malt base that is well toasted with great unsweetened chocolate and coffee character as well as clear flavors from the rye whiskey barreling. It's been a long time since I've had Raven's Eye (the base stout here), but I recall it was a well toasted malt stout. This was nicely made, well barreled and a pleasure to drink. Nicely done.

Big, dark, and beautiful. Rich chocolate notes blend with spicy and tannic barrel and whiskey notes to produce a truly mighty Stout. Thin by modern US Stout standards, this beer exemplifies my personal preferred marriage of beer and liquor. Robust and flavorful without becoming a dessert that is hard to drink past 4 oz.
