On tap at 38 Degrees in Alhambra, CA.

Pours a clear orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells better than it tastes in my opinion.

On-tap at 38 Degrees in Alhambra. Thanks for the sample Clay! On to the beer:

As black as ink with cream colored lace which whips itself around the glass. Unlike other India Darks that I've had, this one doesn't overpower you, in terms of aroma or taste. The aroma is modest with smoke, roast, and a mild hoppiness, taste is similar to that model too. It's not too bitter from the hops or roasted malt used, a pleasing surprise in my experience with this style of beer. And it's medium full bodied with a bit of a chew to it. For a brewery that I don't hear much press from, Onyx was a pleasant surprise.
