Purchased by two pints in a plastic container at the Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield, which has the license to sell real ales for take-away and regularly offers up to four ales on hand pumps! This ale is currently brewed at (or "by"?) the Sheffield Brewery, before the brand new White Rose Brewery is fully set up on its own site. Served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: dark golden with slight chill haze, coming w/o any sign of beer head and very little carbonation all the negative elements result from the transportation of the ale from the shop all the way back home, so not its fault~~
S: a sharp floral hoppy scent, nectar-ish sweetness, and dancing wheat-ish malts are backed by a deeper layer of toffee-ish malts. Overall, the intense hoppiness floats against a rich malt backdrop, underlined by a light touch of tartness from yeasts.
T: hoppy all the way through besides a citric tinge, it has a spicy as well as piney hint at play, while at the back it also tastes a bit tannic, while the hay-ish and semi-stinky maltiness sits firmly behind. On the balance, the piney bitterness seems to prevail over the malts, lending a pleasant length and depth till the end of tasting.
M&D: a real ale enjoyed at home its better than bottle-conditioned version, for sure, showing a soft texture and fine fizziness, although carbonation does lose out a bit during transport. All in all, a quaffable blond bitter, making one look forward to the formal set-up of this brand new brewery!
