(Notes of 11/2007) Revisited by a half-pint (sparkler-pour) at the University Arms, Sheffield.
A: pale golden in colour, light off-white fluffy head, plus low level of carbonation (with microscopic fizziness at play). Looking fresh and nice.
S: very mild honey and floral scent of hops abound, backed by a touch of fruitiness as of a wedge of freshly-cut lime - simple and fruity.
T: very mild honey-ish sweetness precedes grassy hops, leading towards a very long and dry aftertaste of chewy, highly-tannic and spicy hop bitterness rubbing the sides of the tongue, backed by an enticing flow of grainy malts with its lasting aroma.
M&D: softly carbonated vis-à-vis the high-octace bitter and hoppy profile. This Blond Bitter is superbly thirst-quenching! So much better than my last encounter with this beer, consumed in the very same pub!

Tasted by a half-pint (sparkler-pour) at the University Arms, Sheffield.
3.5 A: pours a clear yellow-ish straw hue with a fluffy white foam, on top of low carbonation.
3 S: slightly burned cane sugar or crystal sugar mainly, plus some grainy notes and cream; a light touch of spicy-floral hops gradually emerges after a swirl, along with flowery esters, nectar, and elderflower-cordial+lemonade, reminiscent of a Belgian pale ale a bit. Quite mild overall.
3 T: some wheat-ish savoury-sweetness comes with a mildly tart touch of witbier; the foretaste is quickly taken over by powdery, somewhat rough/abrupt hop bitterness, rendering a quite dry palate in the finish. A weird, sticky sugary undertone seems to linger, making the aftertaste not as pleasant as it could've been.
3 M&3 D: the mouthfeel is too light and a bit flat for a healthy cask ale, while a potential balance suffers from the weak foretaste and abrupt bitter aftertaste. All in all, if served fresher, it could've been a delicious golden summer ale.
