(Notes of 10/2007) The first beer tasted at the 2007 Sheffield Beer Festival, by a half-pint with a sparkler-pour. Allegedly, this was the first beer brewed since the resumption of business after devastating regional flooding caused several months of interruption (hence the sarcastic name, I take it?).
A: golden in colour, coming with a lovely-creamy white froth with great retention, on top of a quiet body showing only microscopic fizz. Very very fresh in appearance.
S: sweet flowery scent on a par with peachy fragrance, orange yogurt and a touch of sour pears... Fragrant and hoppy overall, but slightly lacking a malt backbone on the balance
T: mild citrus-ness upfront leads towards bitter-sweet pale malts, a deepening spicy-hoppy middle and a dry-ish aftertaste, which is lightly zesty, woody, tangy, along with a reasonable level of tannins to rub the palate.
M&D: med-bodied, very soft in terms of carbonation; the flavour profile is full of hop aroma and benefits from a dry-ish undertone rendered by both malts and hop bitterness. A tasty and balanced Blond Bitter all in all.
