December 2019: 500 ml bottle, as Skagen Gnavpoy Jule Porter, from SPAR Hirtshals. ABV is 8.0%. Black colour, large tan head. Aroma of malts, mild coffee, black rye bread and brown sugar. Soft mouthfeel. Flavour of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar and distinct bittering hops.

Copenhagen 30/8 2020. 50 cl bottle from Vinbørsen, Nordre Frihavnsgade, Kbh. Ø. Black and red version of Skagen Bryggeri's usual label design with the crystalline star on red background.
Pours opaque dark brown with a big beige head. Settles as 0,2 cm thick layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a strong sweet malty odor mingling with dark fruits and licorice. Brown sugar, toffee, dark alcohol, salty licorice, hints of fermented plums.
Medium strong carbonation. Thick, creamy, viscous, fat, smooth yet a little sticky texture. Lightly tingling.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is fairly bitter. Lingering. Finish is dry with a boozy touch.
Lives up to its grumpy name by being quite bitter but not without some underlying sweetness.
