Barrel-Aged Stout/Barrel-Aged Barley Wine Blend
“Turn on the Dark” is a blend of 4 different barrel-aged beers. Three imperial stouts and one barley wine. The ratios of each were decided on through repeated samplings, blendings and more samplings. I mean, we really tasted this beer a lot. A lot a lot. Too many times if you ask my wife. But we didn’t care, only the right blend would do for for this release. “Turn on the Dark” has aromatic notes of bourbon, oak and dark chocolate. As it warms, flavours of raisins, tobacco, and molasses become more prevalent.

Copenhagen 3/3 2024. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. Blue label with a dark light bulb. They present it as a mix of a Stout and a Barley Wine om the label.
Pours opaque sark brown with a small beige head. A bit bubbly. Settles as a thin patch of foam floating in the middle of the glass. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet sugary, vinous odor mingling with woody alcohol. Sweet liqueur, brown sugar and dark alcohol. Toffee and vanilla. Plums and raisins.
Light carbonation. Thick, oily, soft, viscous and a bit sticky texture. Gently tingling.
Flavor is intense with a heavy boozy sweetness followed by a moderately strong sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet. Lingering. Finish is sweet, sugared fruit.
More Barley Wie than Stout. But a sweet, punchy one.
