Fanø’s Imperial Barrel-Aged Jule Porter was brewed with coffee and cinnamon before being tucked tightly into Stauning Whisky Barrels for four months of rest.

This time results in a complex nose of fragrances that meet the drinker on first inspection; notes of coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and whiskey can be found immediately after pouring. Given time, this porter warms and additional aromas are unlocked and notes of vanilla and oak add to the beer’s aromatic profile. The warming flavors of whiskey, wood and roasted coffee beans reach out on first taste before slowly fading away, leaving the drinker with a lingering taste on cinnamon, licorice and vanilla.

Copenhagen 23/11 2020. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Drawing of Santa Claus stark raving, deliriously drunk on the label.

Pours opaque, dark brown with a dense, dark beige head. Disappears after a couple of minutes leaving a thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing.

Aroma is intense with a sweet and spicy odor mingling with sharp, boozy notes. Chocolate and cinnamon. Leather and tobacco. Sharp whiskey and grains.

Light carbonation. Thick, oily, viscous, fat, soft, texture.

Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a light sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and laden with cinnamon. Lingering. Finish is boozy.

The sweet and spicy beer gets a healthy kick in the butt by the raw whisky.
