Sweyn Forkbeard - Sherry Barrel Aged
Our "Danish Imperial Series" is an ever-growing line of imperial-strength beers, each honoring a different figure from Denmark's long imperial history. You are holding in your hand a special version of the fourth beer in our "Danish Imperials Series": "King Svend Tveskæg". Brewed with British malts and a generous dose of Citra, Cascade and Green Bullet hops, this version of "Svend" has then spent several months in Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels, which has given it additional characteristics of oak, rich molasses, figs and caramel.
IBU: 48 IBU
Malts: Malts: Marris Otter, Chateau Cara Blonde, Abbey Malt
Hops: Malt Malt Citra, Cascade, Green Bullet
Aroma: Caramel, raisins, malt, figs, oak
Yeast: Yeast: WLP001

Copenhagen 16/3 2022. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. Painting of grumpy helmeted Viking looking angrily at me from the label. I suppose it is Svend Tveskæg which has become Sweyn Forkbeard in these international times.
Pours opaque murky dark amber with a mid-sized yellow-ish head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with overpowering sweet boozy odor with sweet dark malts mingling with sugary liqueur with a boozy whiff. Sweet toffee, caramel and brown sugar. Sweet Sherry and alcohol. Condensed sweet and boozy.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, a bit greasy and sticky texture. Almost flat.
Flavor is intense with a heavy sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and sugary. Lingering. Boozy and sweet finish with a light burn.
A bit too much Sherry and sweetness for my taste. I did not suspect old Sweyn to be a Sherry Hound.
