This Black Belgian Ale is inspired by the Sort Sol nature phenomenon that occurs annually in the Wadden Sea. A pitch black ale brewed with American hops has notes of citrus and tropical fruit that balance out with a malt bill that adds roasted coffee and chocolate aromas and flavors. Fermented with Belgian yeast, Black Sun has a complex dried fruit and spice character.

Rindby 15/7 2020. 50 cl. bottle from Fanø Bryghus, Strandvejen, Fanø. Drawing of a Starling on the label and a swarm of them in the background. Ready to go on the wings simultaneously and obscure the sun.
Pours opaque dark brown with frothy, medium-sized lightly beige head. Settles as 2,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Massive lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a dark sweetness, roasted malts and light sour notes. Brown sugar, burnt malts, dark chocolate and bitter coffee.
Light carbonation. Medium-thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter. Finish is dry and bitter.
A bit harsh and on the bitter side. But not without a redeeming light sweetness.
