Fanø 1741 is a warm fermented Biere de Garde, brewed with lemongrass and rosehip. The aroma is dominated by fresh lemon and melon, accompanied by a tasty mix of cherry, citrus fruit, caramel, and a not insignificant amount of Belgian funk. Brewed to celebrate the repurchase of the Island from Christian VI.

Køge 17/10 2019. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Gymnasievej, Køge. Drawing of a Shield with Two Sea Horses in Blue and white on the label.
Pours unclear golden amber with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin, almost transparent layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No Lacing.
Aroma is bitter-sweet with a herbal sweetness meeting a spicy bitterness. Herbal Lemongrass, hints of Ginger, apple. Sweetish and cake-like. Light notes of lemon and citrus.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, greasy texture.
Flavor has a strong sweetness bordering on being sugary. Very moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and lingers for a while.
A tad too sweet and way too herbal for my taste buds.
