Our “Danish Imperials Series” is an ever expanding series of imperial strength beers, each honoring a different individual from Denmark’s long imperial history. For the filth beer in our Danish Imperials series we honor the first Danish Imperial of them all, “Gorm the Old”. Brewed with lactose sugar and cellared on cocoa nibs and vanilla beans, ‘Gorm the Old’ is a strong imperial stout with a smooth, chocolatey deliciousness.

Copenhagen 13/3 2019. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. Desig follows Fanø's Danish Imperial Series with an old portrait in profile with what looks like a knitted texture in the background.
Pours opaque dark brown with a big dark, beige head. Bubbly. Settles as thin, creamy layer of foam just managing to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is sweet, strong and quite imperial. Cocoa, dark chocolate, molasses, coffee liquor (a little shot of Kahlua), shoe polish, brown sugar and alcohol.
Low carbonation. Thick, tough, oily, sticky, fat texture.
Flavor is heavy sweet followed by a medium strong coffee bitterness. Aftertaste bittersweet. Lingering.
A beer well worthy of Gorm den Gamle. Strong, boozy and ancient. A bit on the sweet side but not too sweet.
