During WWII nearly 300 bunkers were built as part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall, a series of fortifications along the Wadden Sea. Formed in 1999, Fanø i Atlantvolden is an organization dedicated to preserving, restoring and informing the public about these bunkers, to help ensure that these important parts of history are not forgotten. Brewed in association with Fanø i Atlantvolden, Fanø Bunker Stout is a dark chocolate stout brewed with cocoa nibs and vanilla.

Copenhagen 20/12 2018. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. Black and white Photo of a German Bunker with graffiti saying “Be Free”.
Pours opaque dark brown with coarse and bubbly beige head. Disappears after a short while leaving magre remnants of foam behind. No Lacing.
Aroma is sweet, spicy and a little chemical. Brown sugar, lactose and molasses. Vanilla, toothpaste . Hints of licorice and cough drops.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, lightly tingly, oily texture. A little sticky.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by medium spicy bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet but with strong bitter undercurrent.
Quite spicy for sweet stout. Nice - but I could live without the toothpaste odor.
