BOTTLE: 22 fl oz. Brown glass. Generally appealing label art. Unbranded pry-off crown cap.
7.50% ABV. O.G. 83 SG. 20 Plato. 55 IBU.
Served cold into a tulip/snifter hybrid glass and allowed to come to temperature over the course of consumption. Reviewed live as an imperial stout per the label.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: Khaki colour. Nicely creamy and frothy. Recedes fully within 45 seconds, leaving no lacing.
BODY: Opaque solid black. No yeast or sediment is visible.
It's a nice looking imperial stout, and is within style conventions. But it isn't unique or special-looking.
AROMA: I don't find any of rye's signature spiciness. Dark malt sweetness, chocolate malts. I detect no roast. There's also something off about the aroma, but I can't put my finger on it...
Aromatic intensity is average.
TASTE: Chocolate. A hint of marshmallow. Dark malt sweetness. Burnt sugars. That's about it, aside from the odd off-flavour...which Blakelive784 rightly puts out as either vegetal notes (okra?) or DMS. There's something seriously wrong with this, and it ruins both the balance and the build.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, and of average thickness and heft on the palate.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
OVERALL: It's not repugnant, but boy is it off-putting with that vegetal off-flavour. Tough to stomach as a result. Not a beer I'd recommend to others, and of well below average quality for a Hoppin' Frog beer.

Bomber poured into ommegang goblet.
Appearance: deep, dark coffee colored beer with a mocha head that lingers a bit.
Smell: all the chocolate. Just a rich chocolate smell. Now I see why the bottle says that it doesn't contain chocolate. Nice.
Taste: surprisingly like the nose, but with coffee notes ripping through this. Love the taste.
Mouthfeel: far too thin, to be frank, given the nose and taste.
Overall: i.do really like this. Not a bad random shelf win!

Poured into a balloon glass.
Look: Espresso coffee bean black, a dark cream colored head recedes to a thick film. Light spots of lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate bars, oatmeal flakes, rye.
Taste: The dry chocolate presence really is amazing. A dry oatmeal cookie body comes after. There is a black licorice hidden underneath.
Mouthfeel: Dry, very dry but not heavy.
Overall: Rich oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. This beer is delicious, no flaws really.

Midnight black body with a thin yet lasting light tan head. Deep chocolate and roasted grain aromas; a bit of spicy, minty smell, too. Big bittersweet chocolate flavor; strong bitterness; a bit of astringency at the finish; a twinge rye crispness and sting hiding in the background. Heavy bodied; smooth; semi-sweet finish.
Luscious and full-bodied stout. Nice balance of malt sweetness with an almost IPA-like hop bitterness. Perhaps it's the rye and hop combination that faintly resembles a bourbon-barrel character to things (I don't believe this beer was barrel aged), but whatever the case, there's a lot of pleasing nuance and depth to this stout.
