Copenhagen 11/10 2017. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen. Drawing of a glass of Barley Wine on the label.

Pours hazy brown with small white head. Disappears fairly fast leaving what looks like muddy water.

Aroma is strong, dark, exceedingly sweet and boozy. Vinous - if you are into Port. Some bitter licorice in the background.

Low carbonation and thick oily palate.

Flavor is heavy sweet. Sugary. Hints of licorice. Aftertaste is sugar and alcohol.

Sweet, heavy and boozy...

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Copper colour, large off-white head. Malty aroma, also strong notes of dark dried fruits and caramel, hints of oak. The fairly sweet flavour has notes of dark dried fruits, brown syrup and plenty of caramel, hints of oak. The bitterness is quite moderate, a little more wouldn’t hurt. Still a decent barleywine. I hate myself for not having some Blue Stilton cheese to go with it.

From Boxbeers. In Teku glass. Playing Russian Horror Story. Malty, very alcoholic and sweet, with lots of brown sugar. Cloying, and with 50cl and a high abv, its fairly hard to finish

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a subtle orange with almost no transparency. Nose is plum, fig, sweet grapes, candied sugar. Taste is caramel, grapes, toffee, mint, sweet syrup. Really different, and I really like it. Perhaps a bit sweet. Mouthfeel is medium, as is on par for the style. Enjoyable and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramelized sugar notes is quite intense though doesn’t fall into gross territory. Taste is also dominated by very nice toffee and caramelized sugar notes with limited amount of piney hops. Body is full with god carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. I really enjoyed this beer since it veered closer to English-style barley wine with well balanced flavours.

This looks a little hazy with a medium to light bronze color. Little head.

It's smells of sweet mulled wine and red wine and a hint of wood/oak.

I get a mead feeling upon drinking from its sweet aroma and thickness in my mouth.

It tastes of mulled wine, raisins, or perhaps grapes, and with a oak finish.

What I like about this beer is its apperance and aroma. I think it is a little to sweet in taste when it is a beer this complex.

2008 vintage. Bought from crackedkettle.
Look: Pours a dark amber-chestnut- color with a off-white head, leaving a nice lacing.
Smell: Sweet malts, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, orange zest and some warming alcohol.
Taste: Toffee, brown sugar, caramel, dark fruits. Flavor is sweet, with only very light bitterness, a beautiful example of an traditional English style barley wine. The alcohol is very well hidden. This beer is extremely well balanced.
Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, medium-thick body
Overall: Beautiful barley wine

50cl brown bottle with a freshness date.

Healthy looking head, good stickage. Weathered brass color, shiny. Nose is of alcohol soaked raisins and toffee. Smooth, creamy and slick ... a bit viscous. Oh so very sweet ... yeah, very sweet and not letting go. Bordering cloying so I'm sipping it slow to let the beer warm up just a tad more. Big toffee flavor with a bigger raisin or figgy backdrop. Hint of yeast, buttery yeast with a pulling grainy husk flavor. Hops? Perhaps that is the slight veggie flavor within, not much bitterness at all.

A sweeter and more alcoholic likeness of the style, the sweetness might be too much for some but not me though this is a very slow sipper.
