Warwik, the name of the brewery, is the name of the Danish town Varde in Norse. Lause was the nickname of a coachbuilder working in Varde during the first half of the 20th century. The beer is described as a Schwarzbock.
The liquid is deep brown; the high head is off white. It sinks slowly without leaving much of lacing. Bottle conditioned.
The smell is dry and very malty. Some alcohol, lots of chocolate and roasted nuts. Some bitter-sour notes and a hint of wax and soap (Fuggles hops?).
The taste is quite complex Somewhat roasted malt, dry notes of pumpernickel and boiled potatoes. Sour-bitter flavours of soap, vinegar and nuts. The aftertaste is dry with some chemical notes and hints of flowers and yeast.
The carbonation is average, as is the liquid thickness.
An unbalanced beer with lots of odd unclean flavours.
